Language Matters
Words have the power to empower or exclude. To build people up or keep them down. Language evolves and what meant one thing 10 years ago, may have a different meaning in the present day.
We wanted to understand more about where the public sits on language relating to protected characteristics – sexuality, disability, ethnicity. If you identify as a disabled person, how would you want to be described? And if you’re not a disabled person, how concerned are you about using the ‘correct’ language?
We spoke to over 4,000 adults living in the UK.
